Soccer is a sport that relies on teamwork, co-operation, precision passing, footwork and positive encouragement to be the best that you can be. Soccer is a game that moves with an ebb and flow between changes in offense and defense. Soccer is a game that changes and constantly evolves. The Whitby Girls U-15 team exemplifies all of these qualities of the game of soccer. During the 2007 season the team enjoyed many successes, winning the Akron Tournament in New York State, the U-15 Whitby Iroquois Soccer Tournament, and the Saint Catharine’s Wine and Grape. The team was fourth in the Central Girls Soccer League, Level 3. To the casual observer, 2007 was a successful year for the team but just as a soccer game involves movement so did the team. Different players left the team in search of personal fulfillment elsewhere. As a result, a group of dedicated players and coaches decided that they wanted to rebuild the team. Using their soccer philosophy and hard work, the coaches and players trained every Thursday night, working on passing and shooting skills. The team joined the league at the Docks in Toronto, using this opportunity to work on their skills and teamwork. The girls encouraged each other to never give up, always trying to do their best. On Saturday, April 22, the Whitby Iroquois U-15 Girls beat the U-16 Scarborough United Avalanche team to win the league championship. Over the winter, new members have joined the team and discovered how welcoming the team members are. The WISC U-15 team has a passion for the game. They have learned that there are transitions in life and in a soccer game. They have been determined and passionate about playing a game that they love. They welcome and encourage all girls that join them. The girls have learned teamwork, confidence, hard work, loyalty, dedication and a drive to succeed make playing a game that they love a beautiful experience. Whitby Iroquois Soccer U-15 Girls are looking forward to the challenges of the 2008 season. The team is encouraging each other and developing the confidence to meet the challenges that life and the game of soccer have to offer.

The U10 Girls ‘A’ team, led by Coach Patty Balachorek, is off to an impressive start to the 2007/08 indoor season, where they are participating in an indoor rep league at the DISC. Through the first 6 games of the indoor season, the team is 6-0, without a single goal against though the 6 matches. A strong commitment to team defense, in conjunction with excellent goal keeping from our tandem of Madison McBride and Jessica Smart, has proven to be a winning formula for the talented ‘A squad’. The scoring has been spread out nicely between all of our players, from the back line, through the mid-fielders, and up to our “fleet-footed” and talented strikers who have the skill and drive to be able to put the ball in the back of the net! There’s been some real beauties scored from both ends of the lineup!
The girls recently participated in the ‘2007 Christmas Hangar Tournament’, where they were matched up against many of the top teams in the GTA. Very strong teams from Mississauga and Brampton, as well as our sister team coached by Richard Pack, participated in this tournament. The games were short but plentiful. Through the first 3 games of the round robin, the Whitby girls assembled a perfect 3-0 record with zero goals against. Again, commitment to defense, a quick transitional game back to offense, tenacity around the opponents net, and superb goal keeping, enabled our girls to grab the number one position in our group. The day started off with a 1-nil win over a very strong North Mississauga team who we’ve had strong competition from in the past. Next up were two teams from a strong Brampton United Club, with 3-nil & 4-nil scores respectively for the Whitby girls. The girls played our sister team in the quarter final to a tough 1-nil victory. The semi finals had us up against Salt Fleet’s top team, again a strong competitor whom we’ve had some tough matches with in the past. After a 1-1 draw in regulation, the Whitby girls’ prevailed in a 5-shot shoot-out with some fantastic saves made from our keeper. On to the finals, the 6th game of the day for the girls, and back up against the talented team from North Mississauga. Despite being short three stalwart players from our roster, playing with only 10, our girls fought to a hard 0-0 draw in the finals, again proceeding to a shootout. This time, the team from North Miss prevailed to win the championship by one extra goal in the shoot-out.. In all, our girls fought hard throughout all 6 games, only had one goal against in regulation play, and came up slightly short of the championship. The girls were rightfully very proud of their accomplishments for the day’s work, and look forward to continued development and progress in solidifying their position as one of the top U10 girls’ team in the region.
The team is coached by Patty Balachorek, Brent Jamieson, & Don Smart.
The team is managed by Wayne Warren.
