The Club was able to use these fields on each playing night throughout the 2004 season. The irrigation system is operational and it is activated by a programmable control box. Fields were watered on a daily basis until mid-October unless the automatic rain sensors de-activated the irrigation.
Lights were installed in July 2004, but the Club elected not to allow night games or practices on these fields due to concern about overuse given the infancy of the fields. The process of aiming the lights is expected to be completed this fall. We anticipate that limited use of Rossland Fields for night games will commence in 2005.
WISC plans to place an open tender for a comprehensive maintenance (aeration, over-seeding, cutting, fertilization etc…) program to improve the quality of the field for years to come. Under the terms of a Lease Agreement with the Town of Whitby, WISC retains sole responsibility for field maintenance in exchange for exclusive use of the fields.
The parking lot was paved earlier this month after the outdoor season had come to an end.
The Club met with school officials at the newly constructed & adjacent high school in late September to address concerns about use of the fields by the school. The Club elected to accommodate the school’s temporary need for conditional use of the fields. The arrangement expired based on mutual consent on October 8, 2004.
The Durham District School Board and the Club have an agreement that permits WISC to use full and mini sized fields located on school property. We anticipate that one or more of such fields will be available for Club use in 2005. In addition, the school board has provided storage space within the school for the exclusive use of WISC.
