Active Start - U4, U5, U6

Soccer contributes to the well-being of children by engaging them in the sport while teaching them basic movements.  At this introductory level, the objective is to get moving and to keep active.

U4 & U5's:  Each player will receive a size 3 ball.  The emphasis will be on lots of touches with both feet - running with the ball, stopping and changing direction with the ball, dribbling, kicking and shooting.  The session will include a 20 minute warm up, 5 minute "break" and will conclude with a 3v3 small-sided game against the team scheduled to share the field.

U6's:  Each team will receive 5 practice/game balls (size 4). The emphasis will be on lots of touches, dribbling, passing, shooting. Small-sided games are in a 4 v 4 format. Players should play a fair amount of time in each position by rotating through each "position" on the field.  The session will include a 15 minute warm up, 5 minute "break" and will conclude with a 4v4 small-sided game (2 x 15 minute halves) against the team you are scheduled to share the field.

WISC's Outdoor Active Start Program begins in mid-May and runs once a week for 14 weeks.  The U4, U5 and U6 divisions participate with their volunteer coach in fun games and activities designed to improve their physical literacy skills.  There are no referees, no scores or standings for these age groups.  All players participate in an end-of-season ActiveStart Festival (Minifest).  During this event, they play a game, receive their participant awards and celebrate the season with fun inflatable games, facepainting, BBQ lunch hosted by WISC.
